Known for having one of country music's warmest and most expressive voices, Buddy Jewell lent his voice to the classical side (and to charity) as a guest soloist in Handel's masterpiece "The Messiah" to help raise money for the American Red Cross last night. Backed by over sixty members of the Music City Community Chorus and the Excelsior Chamber Orchestra, Jewell soloed in two parts - "For behold, darkness shall cover" and "The people that walked in darkness"- from this most popular and difficult work of choral literature.
"This was an amazing event to highlight the incredible need following last week's tragic earthquake in Haiti," said Buddy. "It was an honor to be invited to be a part of the event and to support the ongoing relief efforts of the Red Cross."
The event, which took place last night at The Limelight in Nashville, featured other celebrity soloists including Pam Tillis and John Cowan. The American Red Cross was the beneficiary of the evening's ticket proceeds.
Buddy continues to criss-cross the country in support of his latest single, the emotion-charged "Somebody Who Would Die for You."
